Where to get sandbags in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia for Tropical Storm

Counties in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are beginning to provide details regarding the availability of sandbags as Hurricane Idalia approaches Florida. Action will consistently update this information as we monitor the progress of Hurricane Idalia.

Bradford County,

Now  self-serve sandbag locations are currently operational at BCFR Station 40 in Heilbronn Springs (21412 NW State Road 16) and BCFR Station 90 in Sampson City (13641 SW County Road 227). Pre-filled sandbags are currently being prepared, and an announcement will be issued once they are available for distribution.

Clay County

Sandbag locations will become accessible at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning, weather permitting. Here are the designated locations:

Please note that residents are limited to obtaining a maximum of 10 sandbags each, and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited availability. The county will replenish the sites as necessary, but residents must fill their own bags. Shovels are not provided, so residents should bring their own for bag-fillings.

In Nassau County,

it is strongly advised that residents living in areas prone to flooding take the necessary precautions to protect their homes and property. To facilitate this, the county has established two designated locations where sandbags are readily available:

Yulee Road Department: You can find sandbags at 86200 Gene Lasserre Boulevard, Yulee, FL 32097.
Hilliard Road Department: Another location providing sandbags is at 37356 Pea Farm Road, Hilliard, FL 32046.
Both of these sites will be open for sandbag distribution until 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Beginning Tuesday, they will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The sandbags at these locations have already been pre-filled and are ready for pickup, and to assist residents in the process, the Public Works personnel will be present onsite. Importantly, residents will be required to provide proof of residency when collecting sandbags to ensure that resources are allocated to those in need.

Sand is available at Ballard Park, self-service only. We do not have bags, just the sand. It is available on a first come first serve basis.

The City of Brunswick is holding a Sandbag Filling Event on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Glynn County Stadium, 5 Community Action Drive, Brunswick GA 31520.

St. Johns County

St John County is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its residents in anticipation of Tropical Storm Idalia. Beginning at 12 p.m. on Monday, the county is offering complimentary sandbags at six different locations. These sandbags are a crucial resource for safeguarding homes and properties from potential flooding and storm-related damage.

The sandbags and the sand itself are being provided free of charge. However, it's important to note that individuals must make their own arrangements for transportation to these distribution points, and they should also bring their shovels. Additionally, residents are responsible for filling the sandbags themselves. To maintain fairness and availability for all, there is a limit of 20 sandbags per person.

The distribution of sand and sandbags will commence on Monday and extend through the following day, Tuesday, August 29th, starting at 8 a.m., or until weather conditions permit. The locations where these resources will be accessible are as follows:

  1. Windswept Acres Park – 5335 SR A1A S.
  2. Solomon Calhoun Community Center – 1300 Duval St.
  3. Hastings Community Center – 6195 S. Main St., situated behind the building.
  4. Mills Field – 1805 Race Track Road, within the overflow parking area.
  5. Palm Valley – Located under the Palm Valley Bridge, on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Starting on Tuesday at 8 a.m., the City of St. Augustine will also be providing free sandbags at Francis Field, which can be accessed via 25 West Castillo Drive. Similar to the county's initiative, these sandbags are being offered at no cost and with a limit of 20 bags per individual. Just like before, residents must bring their transportation and shovels to fill the bags.

For those planning to visit Francis Field, please enter from the west off Riberia St. and follow the posted directions. The sandbag distribution service will be available until supplies are exhausted or if weather conditions deteriorate to a point where it's no longer safe to continue.

If you need more information or have questions about this sandbag distribution effort, you can contact the General Services Department at 904-825-1010. For general inquiries related to emergency operations and information, you can reach the St. Johns County Emergency Operations Center Information Hotline at 904-824-5550.
